Life in Constantinople was more advanced than the Western Europeans. They had sewage systems & were provided with hospitals homes for the elderly & orphanage's. Many people had lived in poverty, The emperor gave bread to those in need in turn for doing a job. Many were always busy at work cropping, on a voyage or working in the markets. People attended church regularly & also went to the hippodrome to see chariot races.
