In college what we had to do is grab the neck aka the arm of the microscope (NOT THE EYEPIECE or INCLINED HEAD or the REVOLVING NOSEPIECE, or the FOCUSING KNOB) and then place a hand under the base of the microscope.
I had to memorize the parts of the microscope so if you're not familiar with it then I advise you to look up a pic of a microscope that is labeled.
