Under Confucian philosophy, the virtue of respecting elders is called filial piety. The son will have to make sure that he'll always obey his parents. When his parents gets old, he'll have to take care of them. When his parents die, he will have to perform ritual sacrifices on their graves. Lastly, he will continue the tradition.
