R = {y|y∈R|y≥-2}

Use the vertex to determine the domain and range.

The outside of the root is positive so it continues upward. [y = -√x the graph goes down from vertex.]

The inside of the root is positive so it continues rightward, [y=√-x the graph goes left from vertex.]

In the equation y = √(x + 4) – 2, the vertex is (-4, -2). The x-coordinate of the vertex is negative the value in the root.
