To solve for the percentage increase of the cost of jacket, calculate first for the increase, divide it by the original price and then multiply by 100%. This is shown below.
 
                                  % increase = ((98.60 - 85) / 85) x 100%
 
                                           % increase = 16%

Thus, the price of the jacket increased by 16%.
