“Silent Spring” (1962) by Rachel Carson (1907-1964) was the culmination of the poet scientist’s campaign against indiscriminate use of synthetic biocides to control disease carrying insects and agricultural pests at the expense of the destruction of the natural world and subjecting human beings to neurological damage, malignancy, and death.
