Distribute the -2 to the 7x and 1 to get -14x and -2. Combine the 5x and -14x to get 19x. Then combine 19x and 14x. Then divide and solve for x. Sorry if this is wrong I did this all mentally lol

5x -2(7x + 1) = 14x              Multiply out

5x - 2*7x - 2*1 = 14x

5x - 14x - 2 = 14x

14x crosses over to other side to become -14x, and -2 crosses over to become +2

5x - 14x - 14x = 2

5x - 28x = 2

-23x = 2

x = 2/-23

x = -2/23

Hope this explains it.
