 The reason why the United States did not benefit from the Spanish-American war was that lots of different things went wrong during this war. The sinking of the U.S.S Maine was the cause of the Spanish American War. Also there were many deaths and taxes were raised because the war was expensive. There was imperialism during this time as well.
