Why do taxonomists classify organisms into groups like domains, kingdoms, and phylums based on their shared characteristics?

because if they have shared characteristics then they might have a common ancestor or share some part of DNA so they wouldn't want to classify two animals that have nothing to do with each other because then it wouldn't make sense that's why they classify things by what species and their traits and all that.
