Why is combustion of fuel necessary for heat engines to do work?

because the engines work by burning fuels and releasing heat so without the fuel they can't function

Sample Response- The energy from fuel can only be used when it is in the form of thermal energy. The energy stored in the chemical bonds of fuel are converted to thermal energy when the fuel is burned.
