          P = 2(L + W)
          P = 2(L) + 2(W)
          P = 2L + 2W
 P - 2W = 2L
      2         2
¹/₂P - W = L

solve for l.
p=2(l+w)

Flip the equation.

2l+2w=p

Add -2w to both sides.

2l+2w+−2w=p+−2w

2l=p−2w

Divide both sides by 2.

2l/2=p−2w/2

l=1/2p−w
