We can separate the fraction on left hand side of the equation, by writing each term under the denominator separately as shown below:

[tex] \frac{x}{3}+ \frac{3}{3}= \frac{y+2}{2} \\ \\ \frac{x}{3}+ 1= \frac{y+2}{2} \\ \\ \frac{x}{3}= \frac{y+2}{2}-1 \\ \\ \frac{x}{3}= \frac{y+2-2}{2} \\ \\ \frac{x}{3}= \frac{y}{2} [/tex]

Therefore, x/3 is equal to y/2
